Aegon — Service
Aegon is a young American Akita Service Dog who’s work not only helps his handler, but is also attempting to erase the stigma associated with service dog breeds and invisible illnesses. Aegon is primarily a psychiatric service dog specializing in severe anxiety, depression and complex post traumatic stress disorder alert and response tasks. One of the few akita service dogs in the world, he is also a trained medical alert dog and is learning light mobility tasks and placement for heavy mobility tasks until he is medically cleared to cement them. His work gets his handler out of bed when chronic major depression tells him that there isn’t anything worth getting up for. He has disrupted several suicide attempts this year from emotional abuse when the world was dark and got his handler to laugh again when nothing else could. His incredible nose and instincts have led him to several alerts to both debilitating migraines and body dysphoria caused by hormone levels for his transgendered handler as well as several friends. Being a very even tempered and incredibly social dog, he has also been used to help rehabilitate other dogs with confidence issues and training tips. Aegon and his handler hope to be able to travel to schools and do talks on proper service dog etiquette and the importance of service animals with children, and are also hoping to get in to break the stigma through works at conventions as well.
