Blackie — Emerging Hero
Blackie was rescued from death row with a bleeding mass on his spleen, a huge cancerous mass on his leg and a tail that had been eaten away by maggots. Blackie underwent surgery to remove his spleen and then months of hydrotherapy and bandage changes to save his tail. A year and a half later, he underwent surgery to remove the five pound mass on his leg. After enduring years of neglect, Blackie has met every challenge with gratitude and offers his friendship to everyone he meets. He maintains a happy disposition and has appointed himself as guardian over the small dogs that he lives with. Blackie has been an inspiration to many. He is living proof that all discarded shelter dogs deserve a second chance.
