Coco — Emerging Hero
Coco is my hero and she could be yours too!
Coco, a 4 year old dachshund-pit mix, is the Blue Mountain Humane Society’s nomination for American Hero Dog.
What Coco lacks in size, she more than makes up for in spunk! While Coco temporarily resides in our care, she has been quick to win the hearts of the staff and volunteers who meet her. With her big heart and outgoing personality, she’s impossible to resist! Even though Coco has spent much of her life in shelters and is still waiting for a family to call her own, she never fails to put a smile on the faces of anyone who meets her. Coco has become an activist for our resident dogs as she travels to local senior centers and children’s class rooms to lift spirits, offer companionship, and spread the word about the humane treatment of animals. In this way, Coco is helping to build the human-dog connection by teaching those she meets the value of dog companionship and well being.
Not only is Coco improving the lives of the people she meets, she is also improving the lives of other dogs she meets here at our shelter. Coco’s playful personality helps nervous dogs come out of their shell in dog play groups, making them more comfortable and socialized at the shelter. This not only adds to the overall wellbeing of dogs she meets, but also helps the dogs be more appealing to potential adopters by lowering their stress levels.
Dog heroes, like Coco, are what drives our mission, that’s why she’s our hero!
