Felix — Service
Felix has changed not only my life, but the lives of my wife, my family, and my friends. The amount Felix has done for me I could never repay. But for the rest of my time with him, I will do whatever I can to make sure he has the best care, support, and love that he can.
I remember the first time I met Felix. I was sitting in a room surrounded by prison inmates at a maximum security facility in New York, Fishkill. It was not the most comfortable of settings to say the least. We each got assigned a dog and I got Felix. From that moment on we both knew this was it. As you can see in the photo, he has the most amazing eyes and he’s constantly watching me making sure I’m ok. We were on our way to a lake outing which was one of the many ways we bonded with our dogs during training.
Not only did I know Felix was watching and caring for me from an early time, but Felix knew I was watching and caring for him early on as well. While going to the lake, as we did daily, one day he swallowed a bit of water and ran straight for me and I could tell he wasn’t feeling well. After the water came back up, he went to go back in the water with his siblings, but before he did he stepped, paused, looked back at me as if to ask if it was ok. With great pleasure, I yelled “Go On”! And he ran off into the lake.
Felix has allowed me to unlock my footlocker of scary things that’s been tucked away. I’m now looking at my future with an open mind with Felix and my wife at my side.
