Invincible Vinny — Shelter
Vinny was born completely blind and deaf. While people find this idea to be scary and hopeless, Vinny has risen above stereotypes to bring a message of joy and hope. His life was saved by the Effingham County Humane Society when he was just a tiny puppy.
He found his place in my heart and continues to give me reasons to smile and laugh every day! Vinny and I developed a language of touch to allow us to communicate with each other. We are a therapy dog team – going to visit people across the country and spreading joy and inspiration. Wherever we go, people can’t believe that Vinny is so happy despite his differences. This gives us a chance to spread the message that it’s OK to be different.
Vinny especially adores children, and children adore him as well. Becoming friends with a blind and deaf dog helps them learn compassion for others and how to make friends with those who may be different in some way. This is the perfect way to combat the all-too-common issue of bullying by encouraging a deeper understanding and inclusion.
Please consider adopting a shelter dog and/or a specially-abled dog. Vinny is an inspiring example of the amazing (and sometimes hidden) potential that can be found at a shelter! Vinny’s picture shows him after a weekend of competing at the Special K9 Games, with his characteristic smile on his face! He is happy wherever he goes and whatever he’s doing – a perfect reminder to all he meets of the goodness in life!
