Jake — Shelter
Jake was bought by a family as a puppy. He’s a pure bred Shih Tzu. Unfortunately, his family didn’t take care of him as they didn’t want to spend money at the vet. His teeth became so bad that his breath was terrible, so his family decided they no longer wanted him (after about 8 years). They were going to euthanize him, but once they found out how much that cost they decided instead to abandon him somewhere remote. So they did. He was found and brought to a local shelter. He was microchipped so his family was found; they refused to take him back and Jake became an owner surrender. I had adopted 2 other dogs from Pibbles and More, which was the organization that took in Jake. After having all his teeth removed and being found to have a grade 5 heart murmur, Jake needed a new home and needed to be loved. I took him! He was having urinary issues when he arrived at our home, and eventually we found he had 2 large bladder stones and 3 in his urethra, which is very serious. I agreed to surgery and Jake did well, and seems much happier now! Though I was certainly not planning on getting another senior dog, or spending so much money, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Jake is such a lover and follows me everywhere (my husband calls the animals my train-3 dogs and a cat!). Jake is truly thankful and can’t believe he can sleep on the bed! There are so many dogs that need loving homes, and senior dogs with health problems often never find one. I’m so lucky to be able to share my home.
