Marley — Emerging Hero
After the trauma of being used as bait in a dog fighting ring, this American Bull Dog named Marley was treated for his head and severe ear wounds. Marley is missing half of one ear, his face is scarred with bite marks. Marley was fostered by Forget-Me-Not Rescue Inc. in Bradenton, Florida. He remained in foster care, being over looked for adoption for over two years until I saw his picture on Rescue Me. I applied, met Marley and adopted him in July, 2017. Marley has been training as an Emotional Support Dog and responds well to commands and accompanies me in crowds and short airline trips. Shortly after his adoption, I noticed some health issues and was referred to an animal diagnosis facility. We learned Marley is suffering from Multiple Myeloma and has been for some time. He is receiving treatment and although his prognosis is guarded, Marley is enjoying a healthier and purposeful life. Recently, Marley was so well-behaved, he endured a spleen aspiration without sedation – a far cry from the dog that had to be muzzled due to growling and snapping at the shelter vet. Marley is a joy – brave, giving, protective and very loving. We may have a limited time together, but Marley is experiencing life to the fullest for the first time. This handsome and resilient guy befriended 5 dachshunds, two cats and one parrot during Hurricane Irma that evacuated to our home. Marley continues to care for my 16 year-old blind Cairn Terrier. He is my greatest hero.
