Monty — Therapy
It’s a bird…it’s a plane..Monty I became involved in pet therapy after I had a hospital stay in 2011. Being a dog-lover my whole life, it was very hard to be away from home and my own dog. All of that changed when a volunteer brought in two therapy dogs. My spirits soared, and I vowed that I would do that when I got out. Monty is an 8-year-old border collie mix, we visit Hospitals and senior living communities. We also visit a few nursing homes, the Ronald McDonald House, and a drug and rehab center. Monty is able to uplift almost anyone. I remember one visit where a younger boy just had brain surgery and was in considerable discomfort. The child completely forgot about his pain and was so excited to play with and cuddle Monty. The Kids love to dress him up in many different costumes.. We’ve been doing it since 2012. I work closely with the staff, who absolutely adore Monty, and usually choose a floor or wing to visit for a few hours. I always ask the staff if there is anyone specific who needs to be cheered up. Monty knows exactly what to do, and I let him take the lead. Monty is a gentle and fun companion who has visited up to 4 facilities a week for the last 5 years. He loves people and moves easily from his senior citizen friends in Nursing home to playing with small children and toddlers.
