Motley — Shelter
It took me almost 2 years to start looking for a dog after having to put my first dog down when he became very ill at the age of 11. I didn’t think I could go through that pain again, but I really missed having a dog so I started looking at the local shelter and some online rescue sites. I came across Cody’s Friends Rescue in Dallas and saw Motley’s picture. I fell in love with him immediately and filled out an application to meet him. A few days later we were together! I found out that he was just dropped off at a shelter, no information was provided, and he was too scared for them to put up for adoption. The shelter contacted local rescues and Cody’s Friends Rescue had a foster mom pick him up. She only had him for a few weeks before I got him.
Motley is my first rescue so I had no idea what to expect. He was very scared and I don’t think he had ever been on a leash before. He would lunge at me at times, for no apparent reason, and even bit me a few times. I started reading everything I could find on how to handle aggressive dogs. We tried a few different trainers but I seemed to be doing better with the information I was finding online. It’s definitely been a challenge but he’s absolutely worth it!
I’ve had him 4 years now and he’s such a loveable dog. He loves to snuggle, give kisses and play with his toys. He especially loves unwrapping new toys. I don’t know what I’d do without him!!
