Phoenix — Shelter
I saw Phoenix for the first time with K-9 Konnections Rescue at my local PetSmart and she took my breath away. She was such a beautiful and well behaved dog I didn’t even realize she was a shelter dog. Then I went home and looked up the shelter and saw her pictured there up for adoption and I couldn’t believe it. I checked the website every day to see if she was still there as I was saving money for her and one day I couldn’t wait any longer. I drove an hour out to get her and as soon as I saw her again in person I fell in love all over again. They told me how they found her at a construction site with a broken rope around her neck. She was a little malnourished with ticks on her and they believed she was abandoned. My heart broke for her, but on the way home I promised that she would have the best life with me. After those first few months I realized who actually saved who. I was very depressed the past year. To the point where I didn’t want to leave my house for days, let alone get out of bed. Life was hard and felt like it was falling apart for me. The first time I cried in front of her she immediately got up and licked my tears away. I couldn’t believe someone had neglected such a beautiful soul. On rough nights she would lay on me at night when she knew something was wrong and the pressure was comforting. We healed together with time on our side and I don’t know if I’d be here today without her. She deserves all the love in the world and the title of American Hero Dog.
