Serjio — Therapy

Location: el segundo, California

After working as a Therapy dog team in another organization it was time to move on. We came into ATD in 2015 mainly to join the PUP program at LAX. Joining Heidi’s team was amazing , no other organization comes close. She really cares about her volunteers!!

Serjio became the first working French Bulldog at any airport, I love that. He even met his best friend JJ in this program, the two are inseparable as a result we like doing our shifts together as much as possible.

We have had such a great experience volunteering in the airport. I’ve found that Serjio has been able to bridge the gap between cultures. We spend most of our time working The Tom Bradley International terminal. Serjio is a dog ambassador helping to bridge the gap between different cultures and educating those who don’t understand how a dog can make life better. Serjio has a gift and it’s an honor to share it with the world.

In the first week of November 2017 Serjio ended up paralyzed after rupturing two discs in his spine. Our Vet sent us to the best Neurosurgeon where he had emergency spinal surgery to try and take the bone fragments off his spinal cord. Dr. Powers was a godsend he repaired the damage and now Serjio can walk again, the down part of this is he has a genetic spinal disease called IVDD so his walking has been compromised because his discs could rupture at any given moment for no reason.

If you do happen to see Serjio being pushed around at either LAX or another facility please say hi
