Szva Kodiak Pride Haus Von Leerburg — Therapy
Beginning in October 2018, Szva began work as a Therapy Dog visiting the Doris Miller Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Waco, Tx. Between that date and November 2019, Szva made over 210 individual trips/visits to the VA Medical Center to visit Hospice Care Veterans and Out-patients at the center for daily treatments. For this, she received her American Kennel Club (AKC) Therapy Dog Excellent title and is actively working toward her AKC Therapy Dog Distinguished title (400 visits required).
Beginning in January 2020, Szva began providing services to the families with loved ones in the Community Healthcare of Texas – Providence Hospice unit in Waco, TX. Providing comfort to the families has already proved beneficial to the families as they go through this very trying time in their lives of having a loved one pass on.
Szva is currently volunteering her services forty plus (40+) hours a month between these two units and also performs “On Call” services as requested. All of this is done working around our daily schedule of training other dogs, as that is my vocation after being a dog handler in the Marine Corps.
Your serious consideration of Szva for the Hero Dog Award – Therapy Dog, would be greatly appreciated as a means to honor her for the hours she gives to make other lives better with the comfort she provides.
