Xavior — Service
Hi, my name is Jonah Martin. I am a person in your community that is inflicted with Autism. I have struggled most of my life to feel comfortable when I went out in the community, or staying home alone. At the beginning of last year I was living in a residential facility that assisted people with disabilities, but I knew I could do more for myself. I decided to take that next step and get myself a Self Directed plan. With this plan it allowed me to move out into my first apartment on my own. I was a little scared at first, but with some supports from my staff, I was able to start living on my own. Although, I was satisfied with my new living situation, and getting a job, I still was not comfortable going out for a long period of time and struggling being by myself in my apartment. Being the youngest of 5 children, I always had family and many dogs that lived with me.
I have always loved dogs, I was comfortable around them. My supports thought it would be a good idea to look into getting me a support dog. This is how I was able to receive Xavior, my golden retriever. It is a lot of work to take care of a dog, but he is giving me strength to get out more and pursue what I have always wanted too. Xavior, helps me calm down when I am getting anxious. I would love for him to be nominated for this for all that he does for me.
