Chloe — Therapy
Chloe is a 12 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback. She has been a pet therapy dog with the VHS Canine Comfort Program since May 2015. Since March 2020, it has been a different year for pet therapy. All of Chloe’s visits have been virtual. Every Monday and Tuesday, I read stories to the patients at George Mark Children’s House in San Leandro, CA through Facebook live. Chloe sits next to me while I read. When I tell her that it is time to read stories, she follows me to the front room and lays right next to me ready for her friends to see her.
On Wednesday mornings, 5th grade students from Emma Smith Elementary in Livermore, CA take turns reading to Chloe in a break out room via Zoom. The students sent all of the pet therapy teams holiday cards to say thank you.
Every Thursday, we participate in a pet therapy class via Zoom with our clients/friends from Futures Explored. I read stories and fun facts about animals. The clients say hi to Chloe, share their pets pictures and show me their pets.
January and February, Chloe and I were visiting in person the patients at George Mark, clients at Futures Explored, participants at Go Group, students at high schools, corporations for stress relief, Paws to Read schools and libraries.
Chloe still brings them comfort and smiles through the computer. We can’t wait to be able to see everyone in person.
Chloe deserves the title of American Hero Dog because she makes everyone happy that she visits within our community
