Peanut Diamond — Shelter

Location: San Antonio, Texas

In October 2016 Peanut Diamond was found on the side of the road with a broken pelvis & broken leg. She was picked up by San Antonio animal control and taken to the shelter. After a month in the shelter she was placed on the euthanasia list. Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas called and asked me to go to the shelter and pick her up. She was only one hour away from euthanasia and was one of the lucky ones that made it out of the shelter.

Once I got Peanut home she was terrified of me and my dogs. She spent 8 weeks in a crate to rest and heal. During that time I fostered her she found the courage to trust me and my dogs. When the veterinarian cleared her to be adopted a decision had to be made. I realized Peanut picked me and could see the Hero in her eyes. That is when our journey began.

In the photograph you see Peanut Diamond loves to dress up. She loves to strike a paws to show the face and love of a shelter dog. So far she has two successful fundraising calendars where she shows off her wardrobe and is a Hero who pays it forward by donating all the proceeds to Diamond Dachshund Rescue. Peanut also has events & television appearances to advocate for adoption of shelter dogs and tells her personal story of rescue. Since 2016 Peanut has personally raised over $10,000 and been a part of events that have raised more than $250,000!

Shelter dogs like Peanut Diamond are American Hero Dogs who demonstrate everyday the love & courage of a shelter dog!
