Rocco — Therapy

From the moment I first viewed Rocco’s adoption video, I realized that he was destined for an amazing purpose that would bring unconditional love and joy to many throughout his lifetime. Rocco has a significant desire to interact with humans, often attempting to “speak” to them softly and lean in for a hug. It seemed as if the universe made a mistake and made him a dog instead of a human… or was it a mistake? I work in healthcare as a home health PCA. I believe that divine intervention brought us together to become a team providing service to others. Given Rocco’s highly intelligent border collie breed and his sensitive and affectionate nature towards humans, I promptly enrolled us for formal training towards registered therapy dog. In the Fall of 2019 we became a TD team and began visiting people in hospitals, mental health centers and other health service facilities. Rocco often senses a soul in need before I do, and will gently guide me towards that person. Six months into our visits, COVID-19 struck. While we can’t visit such places at the moment, Rocco enthusiastically joins me for in-home 1:1 visits. His work is giving love and he never tires, he’s the most dedicated healthcare professional I know. It is because of Rocco’s unconditional love and desire to comfort humans that I’d like to nominate him for this prestigious award. He has truly become a “hero” to all those he visits.
