Willie — Shelter
I am nominating the cutest, sweetest, little boy you ever did see for Shelter Hero Dog. Willie came to us as a pup with a strong under-bite, he eventually lost his lower teeth giving him a unique look. He doesn’t let it slow him down…he is loved everywhere he goes. From old women mugging him on the street…to little ones tugging at his ears. He simply tolerates it all. He became quite sad when his brother died last year and lost two pounds, what a heart this dog has, from then on he hasn’t left my side. He rallied for my sake. He has helped me weather the storm of COVID and many other losses.
I take Willie everywhere, he is never turned away. He sits in the child seat of the shopping cart, and never barks or begs, you don’t hear a peep out of him. Store clerks come up and pet his head, shoppers and people on the street come up to pet him and he always greets them well. I often hear “thanks that made my day.” He breaks through barriers of race, age and politics…there is really no one he won’t talk to.
He even joined me at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, where he turned into a kind of celebrity among the few folks who came out during COVID.
If you are looking for a best friend, someone to hold onto your heart and treat it gently, I wholeheartedly recommend Adopt-A-Pet in Fenton, MI and other shelters. You can’t put a price on love, but the shelters are really selling it cheap.
I love you Willie, you are my heart!
