Chuy — Service

Location: Sacramento, California

Chuy is essential to my day to day life. Chuy is trained to sense my stress and anxiety and alert me to an oncoming anxiety or panic attack. When I am stressed or anxious, Chuy will become persistent in forcing me to pay attention to him. He will start by nudging or pawing me. If I ignore him, he is trained to jump in my lap and lick my face. This is my sign to remove myself from the situation and focus on redirecting my attention to him. Being a combat Veteran, I have a difficult time in crowds and with people approaching from behind me. Chuy is trained to alert me to people walking up behind me or on my blind side. Besides doing his job, Chuy is my best friend. He loves me unconditionally and doesn’t care how bad my day is, he is always there for me.
