Delilah — Emerging Hero
My name is Jeremiah Barrett. I’m a student at Hope Academy in Orange, CT. I would like to nominate Delilah, a service dog at Hope Academy! I believe she deserves to be nominated and win the 2018 Emerging Hero Award because she helps many students with a variety of Disabilities such as Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and Emotional Impairments. A lot of students rely on Delilah to help them learn. Delilah helps change their emotions and helps them to make the right decision. She is a very gentle dog that does not get tired of seeing students. All the students want to be around her. Delilah may be small, but she has a big heart. I remember when Delilah was about to leave Hope Academy because her owner got a different job. We all said our goodbyes to Delilah, and when I left the room where Delilah was, many students at Hope Academy were crying. From elementary school all the way to high school, students were getting emotional. I was shocked because High school kids usually don’t show emotions like that. The Owner felt very bad about it so she decided to leave the dog with Ms.Wilcox, our principal. When I found out that Delilah was going to stay in Hope Academy I was happy because her presence would be missed.Another reason why she deserves to be nominated and win is because she makes sure that our school’s mission statement is is followed. Every student at Hope Academy “deserves a little hope,” and Delilah keeps us hopeful.
