Sammy — Shelter
On the night of January 10th we were at home in Maine. The temperature outside was around -5 Fahrenheit. We heard a dog in distress in the woods behind our house. Sammy went to the door and started pacing. We were both convinced the dog outside was in trouble. I went upstairs to change clothes. Sammy was disappointed because he probably thought I was going to bed. He was thrilled when I came down in flannel pants with snowshoes in hand. We grabbed an extra leash and hiked back about a half mile. Sammy led us right to the lost dog. He also led the dog right back to our house where he spent the night and we tracked his owner down the next morning. I’m quite certain that dog would have frozen to death if not for Sammy.
