Saving Sadie — Emerging Hero
Sadie is a dog who was found in the mountains of Kentucky with a bullet between her eyes and one in her back put there after she had a litter of puppies. Kind people found her and through a series of events, Sadie was transported to a no kill shelter in Wisconsin where I saw her when I was only donating blankets. I didn’t need another dog. I asked the volunteer what the cute dog’s story was and I was told in heartbreaking detail. I asked if I could take Sadie to the vet and was given permission to see if anything could be done. I was told that because Sadie was fecally and urinary incontinent plus the fact that she couldn’t walk I should consider doing the kind thing. But I saw something in Sadie’s sparkling eyes that told me differently. I took Sadie home for the night. The next day I took Sadie to a holistic vet who said that Sadie should be given a chance and so we did.
Fast forward to today: Sadie is no longer fecally or urinary incontinent, but the bullet and shrapnel are too deeply imbedded in Sadie’s back, so Sadie’s mobility is severely compromised.
Sadie and I travel teaching acceptance of those with special needs and her children’s book, Sadie and the Superstars teaches just that! Sadie doesn’t walk like a normal dog, but she can do HIGH TENS over her head!
