Sophia Murray THD CGC — Therapy
Sophia is a hero dog. Her first owner passed away and she was surrendered to the Loving Paws Adoption Center where she survived (with loving care) for three months. At the advice of a friend, Billy Jean Walker, I went to meet her. I adopted Sophia just to give a dog a home. What I found was the most loving companion. Sophia completed Obedience I, II, and the CGC course at the K-9 Academy with Mike Kaelin over 10 ½ months, transforming Sophia from a reactive rescue to a loving therapy dog. I asked a friend, Susan Aspeotus, to help us train for CGC. What I didn’t realize about Sophia was that she has a gift for people. She loves them unconditionally and gives affection to all those she meets. We therapy dog tested with both Susan Aspeotus and Susan Hinkle who provided great suggestions, mentorship, and encouragement. Sophia became a therapy dog on August 2, 2019.
Sophia earned her Therapy Dog Novice (10 missions) award and Therapy Dog (50 missions) award. We work Hospice for Silverstone, a local center, and it has been a very rewarding experience. We also volunteer at Parkside, a local retirement home, and love visiting with the residents. Additionally, we volunteer at the Missouri Veteran’s Home (St. James). As a retired military member, this is one of the most important missions we perform. Sophia and I were guest presenters at Rolla Middle School’s Kindness Day, where she met and loved 400 students without hesitation. The best is yet to come for us.
